positivePositive affirmations come in two forms; pre-packaged and self-created. Both types work, but if you want to write your own, there are some guidelines you need to follow to ensure they work as effectively as possible. Follow these seven steps to write positive affirmations that achieve results

1. Decide what you want to achieve

Be specific about what you want to be, to do, and to have. Create your own affirmation in the first person and in the present tense. This creates concrete, tangible goals which give you a direction to work towards.

2. Create statements you can visualise

Decide what you are aiming for and put that idea into simple statements that reflect the reality you want to create. Use the present tense to create statements that seem to already be true. For example, “I am producing money in my life.”

3. Visualise your intentions

List down all that you are trying to create in your life – the outcome, the behaviours, attitudes and traits you would like to see yourself develop in order to get there.

4. Use only positive words

When you’re creating positive affirmations, make sure you say things that you want to achieve and experience, not what you are avoiding. Use positive words and phrases, for example, instead of saying “I don’t want to feel stress”, say “I'm feeling peace.”. Using the negative words “don’t” or even “stress” could cause your brain to register negative thoughts, rather than the positive intentions behind your affirmations.

5. Use as many senses as possible.

Read your affirmations, write them, feel them, smell them, taste them. If your goal is to be wealthy, imagine what it would feel like on your yacht. Imagine the smell of the ocean breeze, the taste of the salty air on your lips, and the warmth of the sun on your skin.

Using additional senses starts to move towards hypnotherapy and can be very, very effective to increase the speed that you are able to start achieving your goals.

6. Repeat, Repeat and Repeat

To ensure your affirmations are effective, you need to repeat them to yourself daily with attention, conviction, interest and desire.

Your mind believes what you tell it. Make sure you tell it what you want to achieve.
